Buy Targets Watch the Price. Metric Alerts Watch the Business.

You did the research. Sometimes it ends in a price: "I'd pay $400." Often it ends in a rule: "I'd buy this under 30x free cash flow" or "I want a 4% yield." Buy targets handle the first. Metric Alerts handle the second.

A buy target

MSFT ≤ $400.00

  • Best when you already know the price you'd pay, like a fair value from the DCF calculator
  • Fires if the stock touches your price at any point during the day
  • Stays where you put it until you change it

A Metric Alert

MSFT P/FCF ≤ 30x

  • Best when your rule is a multiple, a yield or a score
  • The share price that meets it moves with the business as the company reports
  • Works on yields, debt ratios, Stock Scores and insider buying too

Set It Once. We'll Watch It.

Three steps from any ticker.

1

Tap the bell

It sits beside every ticker in your watchlists and portfolios, and at the top of every stock and ETF page.

2

Pick a metric and a target

See the metric's history, its median and the share price that would hit your target before you save.

3

Hear about it after the close

We check every weekday after the market closes and notify you in the app, by email, or both.

Context Before You Commit

Is 15x Cheap? Check First.

A target without context is a guess. Before you save, the preview shows where the metric has traded, where it sits today, and what the share price would need to do to get there.

  • Up to 10 years of range, with the median marked
  • Quick set to the 5-year median, 10-year median, low or high
  • The share price at your target, for multiples and yields like P/E and FCF Yield
Right Where You Work

The Bell Tells You at a Glance

No new screen to learn. Set alerts from the watchlists and portfolios you already use. The bell beside each ticker shows where its closest alert stands, so a glance at your watchlist tells you what needs a look.

  • Blue while it waits, green when the target is reached
  • Set different rules for the same stock in different watchlists
  • Works on every screen size
One Page for Everything

Every Alert, and Where It Stands Today

The Metric Alerts page collects every alert you've set, grouped by the watchlist, portfolio or page you set it on. Each one shows today's value, so you can see what's close and what's nowhere near. Click any row to change it.

  • "Now 24.1x" on every row, no math required
  • The approximate share price that triggers each valuation alert
  • Search or filter by ticker when your list grows
After the Close

One Calm Notification, Not a Flood

We check once each weekday after the market closes, so you hear about closing numbers, not intraday noise. If several alerts hit on the same day, they arrive together in one grouped notification.

Built to Avoid False Alarms

When the Number Can't Be Trusted, the Alert Waits

A company losing money has a P/E of −12x, which technically passes "P/E at or below 15x". It isn't a bargain, it's a broken number. When the data behind an alert isn't reliable, the alert waits as Unavailable instead of pinging you. It stays saved, and comes back on its own when the numbers do. These are the cases we check for:

Unavailable

Stale data

Values more than 3 days old don't trigger anything.

Unavailable

Negative earnings or cash flow

A multiple on zero or negative earnings or cash flow isn't meaningful, so it waits.

Unavailable

Couldn't be calculated

A stored zero that means "no value" is never mistaken for a real zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Metric Alerts

How often are Metric Alerts checked?

Once a day on weekdays, after the market closes: 4:05 PM ET for US stocks (skipped on US market holidays) and 6:05 PM ET for international stocks. Valuation multiples and yields use that day's market cap. Fundamentals and Stock Scores change when companies report.

Are Metric Alerts real-time?

No, and that's on purpose. Metric Alerts are built for long-term investors, so they check the closing numbers once a day instead of pinging you on every intraday move. ETF values and international stocks can run about a trading day behind.

Which metrics can I set an alert on?

65 stock metrics and 23 ETF metrics. For stocks that includes 26 valuation metrics (P/FCF, P/E, forward P/E, EV/EBITDA, FCF yield and more), all 8 Stock Scores, dividend metrics, financial health ratios, returns, 52-week high and low, analyst rating and insider buying and selling. For ETFs it includes all 8 ETF Scores, expense ratio, dividend yield, P/E, P/B, AUM and returns.

How many alerts can I set for free?

Free accounts get 2 alerts, Pro gets 10 and Unlimited has no limit. Free accounts see real values and can set alerts on any stock or ETF. Overall Score alerts work on every plan; alerts on the individual Stock Score categories need Pro or Unlimited, except on the stocks whose Stock Scores are free to view. Compare plans.

How will I be notified?

By push notification in the Stock Unlock app, by email, or both. Push is on by default and email is off until you turn it on in your notification settings. If several alerts hit on the same day, you get one grouped notification instead of one for each.

Will an alert keep notifying me?

Yes. An alert notifies you at every daily check where its condition still holds, the same way buy targets work. When you've acted on it, or changed your mind, edit the target or delete the alert.

What happens when a metric can't be calculated?

The alert waits instead of firing. If the data is more than 3 days old, a multiple is based on zero or negative earnings or cash flow, or a value couldn't be calculated, the alert shows as Unavailable. It stays saved and becomes available again on its own when the numbers do.

Do Metric Alerts work on international stocks and ETFs?

Yes. Alerts work on US and international stocks and on ETFs. International stocks are checked at 6:05 PM ET each weekday. See our international coverage.

What happens to my alerts if I downgrade?

Nothing is deleted. Your oldest alerts stay active up to your plan's limit and the newer ones are paused. Paused alerts stay listed and editable but aren't checked. Delete one or upgrade, and the oldest paused alerts become active again.

How are Metric Alerts different from buy targets?

A buy target is a share price. A Metric Alert is a condition on a metric, like P/FCF at or below 15x or dividend yield at or above 4%. When a company reports, the share price that meets your condition moves with it, so your target doesn't go stale. A buy target also fires if the stock touches your price at any point during the day, while Metric Alerts use the day's closing values. You can use both. Buy targets can be set straight from the DCF calculator.
